MFW 1st Grade - Week #6

Welcome to Week #6!!!

I forgot I did have one photo to share with you on week #5, but rather than back-track and update that blog post, I decided to just include it here in week #6.  Maybe this way it won't be overlooked by anyone that cares!  LOL

We have a new feature in our classroom - - an organizational attempt on my part.  Originally, I had worksheets and assignments in file folders, one for each school day.  I quickly learned that a file per day was overkill and we could easily have one file per week, use less space, and be more organized.  So, while on a shopping trip to Mardel's, (A Christian and Educational Supply Store), I found these items on sale.  They had CUTE sets of file folders and holders, just $5 each.  Since Caleb is a boy, I refrained from purchasing one of the cute, flowery types for me, and went with this faux wood look - and the file folders have "Silly Monkey's" on them.

I separated his worksheets (reading, math, etc), from the individual daily folders and tucked them into these folders.  Instead of writing on them, I used a post-it note and hand wrote the week number.  That way, I can reuse them later if we decide to change things up yet again.  I am officially organized with all assignments, etc, in folders ready to go through WEEK 16!!!  Whoop!  Ye-haw!!  I'm sure that will be here BEFORE we know it, but for now I'm feeling pretty proud of myself.

Onto week #6.

MFW 1st Grade - Week #5

So our week #5 was a strange one.  Nothing normal about it at all.  Mon-Wednesday was relatively normal, but I could tell Caleb wasn't feeling great and wasn't really getting into it.  By Thursday I realized he was sick and probably needed to see the doctor.   We were blessed that a doctor I wanted to change to would see us that afternoon.  So, with med's we went through Friday, but really didn't push a whole lot of school.

When the following Monday rolled around, it was Labor Day and we had too much going on to even think about school.  Tuesday we were getting ready for Daddy's surgery in San Antonio the next day and Wednesday through Friday was surgery and hospital stay.

So, our next school day wasn't until the NEXT week and we started back to school on Tuesday, Sept 13th...Needless to say, Week #5 took two weeks to finish, but that's okay.  That's what homeschool is all about....And one of the reasons we started 1st grade in EARLY August was because I knew surgery week would probably lend itself to being too difficult to do school.   Getting a head start seemed the best option.

What did we cover in week #5??  We covered the same amount of material, I just don't have pictures to support this weeks study.
